I am really happy you enjoy it! I also love rabbit holes + I feel like kids don't have enough childlish interactions.

Is this something only child sims can do? Or can I send teens and unwanted adults as "supervisors" to go with them?

You can send adults and teens too. It works similar to volunteer events but they are paid activities.
But conversation topics are available for children only
