Heightmap Sharing Thread

9 Attachment(s)
Here are the heightmaps for each of the EA Worlds.

Twinbrook
Sunset Valley
Bridgeport
Riverview
Barnacle Bay
France
Egypt
China
Hidden Springs

Extract the files to Documents\ Electronic Arts\ The Sims 3 Create A World Tool\ UserToolData\ HeightMaps, and then when you click 'import heightmap' you will see them in the list.

(If you don't want to download them separately, you can get the whole lot in one file here)

Please feel free to add any heightmaps you have made (or any future EA maps) that you want to share.

I have some screeenshots of this Height Map(s)
as I did them.
The road embankments and train embankments ulpoad with the map so you can place them.
I used some of the stuff I got here in the CAW tools resources threads.
Hope you all enjoy them.
Have a good day,
and better tommorows for all; evermore!

Put the file into the Usertool Data/HeightMaps folder of your CAW tool in the Documents folder. Where your Electronic Arts Game Folder is, in Documents.
You might need to mod this tool as described earlier in this forum.

Thank you for sharing this! Do you know what world size size/height is used?

simsample 1st Apr 2012 9:13 PM

All of the EA worlds are large, and usually they are around 300 height.

buxcosim, thank you for the height map info for Appaloosa Plains.

It is a large map (300 height) - and it works beautifully. At least, no issues so far. Thank you.

Height map Lucky Palms Height 300

simsample 1st Jul 2012 1:33 PM

Atakoy, thank you for that, however your file host seems to have resized the image. Perhaps you could attach it to your post so that we can have it at its original size of 2048 squared?

3-Sided Medium Island Map

2 Attachment(s)
This heightmap is a 3 sided island map, intended for a medium-size 300 height world. It should be obvious which side needs to be masked off, but an easy way to tell is to set the CAW time to 6 or 18 and the area in which you can not easily see the sun or moon is the 'hidden side' of the island.

I'm not sure how old this post is, but has anyone pulled the Moonlight Falls and Sims University height maps?

auntielynds 10th May 2013 10:59 PM

They're in their own threads along with the extracted textures and roads.

Height maps not showing up

They are in the folder you mentioned by they don't show up. Any reason why?

janxo 15th Aug 2014 7:07 PM

I have the starlight shores distant terrain and the height map, but they don't line up at all. The distant terrain sits too high, am I missing something? I've set the maximum height at 300 but it seems that it should be higher. Is there any way to adjust this?
Thanks!

I can't help you with that,I only know about this quote (source):

Regarding the heightmaps and EA distant terrains, we've seen this in a few EA worlds now where the height maps do not fir the DT. I suspect that EA are using a custom height for their worlds, not the 100, 200 or 300 that we have to choose from. Of course, with the SuperCAW patch we can now choose a custom height, but without knowing what parameters EA used for Lunar Lakes, it is not much advantage to know this!

So maybe SuperCAW can help you further although it's probably going to be a guessing game when it comes to these parameters (trial and error till you get something that works for you or is close enough or something).

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. Honestly CAW is glitchy enough where I don't want to add or patch anything up. I've started building the world anyway and simply pulled up some hills around the edges.
